Power of Prayer Group

Our Power of Prayer Group is made up of children from Year 4 and 5. Their mission is to improve, enhance, celebrate and evaluate the prayer life of all members of our school community.

Throughout the year, the PoP Group lead children in Lectio Divina, prayer sessions, whole school liturgies and school masses. They also lead prayers in the playground for parents during Advent and Lent. Once a term, the children think about our school environment and how it can improve the prayer life of our school.

The children help the younger children in their formation in our school, and think about how prayer develops from our first experiences at home through to the adults in our school.

We are inspired by many prominent Catholics who taught us how to pray, and also take guidance from Jesus who taught us to call God 'Our Father'. Here is what the PoP Group have to say for themselves:

Prayer is important in our school because...

... We want to say sorry, and thank you for the things we have done and the things we have. We also want to be closer to God.

... We can ask for strength to help people who are hungry, thirsty, cold or lonely. We can connect to God.

... It is a way we communicate with God to share our intentions. We can be closer to God through prayer

... We want to be closer to God, and it helps calm us when we are worried.

... It brings us closer to God and closer as a community when we pray together.

... It makes us closer to God, and it helps us to say sorry for our sins.

... We can speak to God and ask him anything

... We can reflect and speak to God, and it draws us closer to Him.

... We say important prayers, and we learn from what Jesus taught us and did.
