Our Class News This Week: 19th-23rd January

Hello everyone! This week, the children have worked very hard!

In Maths, we have been looking at the formal method for short division and have started looking at word problems to apply our knowledge. I have been very impressed by how quickly they have picked it up. In English, we have been using our text of 'The Highwayman' poem to draft and create a newspaper report on the events from the poem.

In Topic, we have started our History unit of the 1960s. We compared what life was like post-WW2 compared to life now. The students were shocked at how different life was and were very interested in finding out more. If the children have any family members such as grandparents or great-grandparents who would share and have conversations with them about life during this time, this would be amazing!

Have a lovely weekend!

Homework

Each week, children will have homework set which is expected to be completed for Thursday. There will be work which can be completed in the CGP Grammar and Reading Comprehension books children are provided with. Grammar homework will be sent out every week, while Reading comprehension will be sent out every two weeks. Mathematics homework will continue to be set online via Mathletics.

The most important way to support your child at home is through reading. We expect each child to read for a minimum of 10 minutes a day. If you have time, try to read with your child and ask them questions about the story they are reading. This quality, dedicated time set aside to reading has a huge impact on children's learning across the curriculum and helps develop a love of reading which can last a lifetime.

Please sign your child's reading record each day.
