Spring 1- Week 4 26.1.26 to 30.1.26
This week we have had another busy and productive week in Year 3.
In maths, we focused on measurement. The children learned how to use rulers and metre sticks accurately, measuring in millimetres, centimetres and metres. They worked carefully to read scales correctly and compare different lengths.
In English, we began exploring persuasive letters. We looked at the features of persuasive writing, including strong arguments, clear reasons and emotive language. The class is building towards writing their own persuasive letters to the President of Brazil and to Amazon loggers, encouraging them to help save the Amazon rainforest.
In topic, we continued our learning about rainforests by studying the different layers of the rainforest. The children learned about the emergent layer, canopy, understory and forest floor, and how animals and plants are suited to each layer.
In RE, we thought about what it means to build the Kingdom of God through our actions. We also explored the Our Father prayer, discussing the meaning behind each line and how it links to our daily lives.
In computing, the children continued developing their skills using spreadsheets. They practised entering data and understanding how spreadsheets help us organise information.
In PSHE, we discussed what it means to stay safe online. The class talked about making safe choices, who to speak to if something worries them, and how to behave respectfully online.
In science, we learned about weathering and investigated the suitability of different rocks for different purposes. The children thought carefully about the properties of rocks and why some are better for building or other uses.

The most important way to support your child at home is through reading. We expect each child to read for a minimum of 10 minutes a day. If you have time, try to read with your child and ask them questions about the story they are reading. This quality, dedicated time set aside to reading has a huge impact on children's learning across the curriculum and helps develop a love of reading which can last a lifetime.
Please sign your child's reading record each day.
