Our Class News This Week: 24th - 28th November 2025
Dear All,
Another busy week in Year 2 and all the children have been working extra hard. I have introduced the children to 'Times Table Rockstars' and have stuck their login codes into their yellow reading records. It is set up so that they can practise the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times - tables. Their maths homework this week is to log on and practise for 10 minutes or more. Towards the end of every term, the children are assessed in Maths, English and Reading. So this has taken over our usual morning lessons. All the children worked extremely hard and showed me just how much they have learnt so far in Year 2. In Science, we looked at the Rainforest and how humans are impacting the habitat, which they found fascinating. In RE, we learnt all about Prophets, with a focus on the 'Annunciation of John the Baptist', when Angel Gabriel appeared to Zechariah in the temple.
We finished off the weekend by making our 'Chrismons' for our school Christmas tree and the children brought home a letter about our advent giving calendar. Any contributions will be greatly received. We also put up a Christmas tree in our classroom today, but it is a bit bear :( I will have a look around at home and if anyone has any old decorations they could share, that would be brilliant.
Thank you,
Miss Simmonds

Homework
Each week, children will have homework set which is expected to be completed by the following Thursday. There will also be work which can be completed in the CGP Grammar and Reading Comprehension books children are provided with. Grammar and reading comprehension work will be sent out on alternate weeks. Mathematics homework will usually be sent home on a sheet and will reflect whatever has been taught that week in Maths. There will also be spellings sent home for the children to learn, and they will be tested on these every Friday.
The most important way to support your child at home is through reading. We expect each child to read for a minimum of 5–10 minutes a day. If you have time, try to read with your child and ask them questions about the story they are reading. This quality, dedicated time set aside to reading has a huge impact on children's learning across the curriculum and helps develop a love of reading which can last a lifetime.
Please sign your child's reading record each day. There is no need to write a comment unless there is something that you would like to share.
