Each week your child will have homework set which will be expected to be completed by Thursday. There will be homework set in the CGP books for Grammar and Reading Comprehension. These are provided for you. Some weeks there will also be a Maths homework set.

The most important way to support your child at home is through reading and phonics. We expect each child to read for a minimum of 10 minutes a day. If you have time, try to read with your child and ask them questions about the story they are reading. This quality, dedicated time set aside to read has a huge impact on your children's learning across the curriculum and helps develop a love of reading which can last a lifetime. Please also access the phonics videos, which are uploaded weekly, so you can help your child with their phonic knowledge as well.

Our Class News This Week – 20th April - 24th April 2026

This week in English we have been focusing on comprehension, we have been looking at how to answer questions about stories we have read. It would be great if you could practice these skills with your child at home. We have halos been learning about time conjunctions and how we can use these within our story writing and within a diary entry.  In Maths, we have been learning about equal groups, we have been putting equal amounts into different groups.  In RE, we have started our new topic on To the ends of the Earth, we read the story about Jesus' ascension to heaven. We retold the story looking at what Jesus promised he would send to his disciples.

Just to make you aware that on Monday 27th April there is a meeting at 6pm for all Year 1 parents to inform you about the very fast approaching phonics screening test. I will be discussing what the phonics screening is and how you can help to support your child at home.
